Gregg over on The Majlis is reporting that Baghdad is in lockdown. The why is not clear, but it’s certainly causing issues.

    It does say why…
    Iraqi security forces received a tip that insurgents were planning to set off car bombs.

    John,

    Appreciate the comment. I’m more concerned about the deeper “why”. What was the purpose of the bombs? Were they trying to increase instability leading up to the parlimentary elections, were they part of a Ba’athist-connected retaliation for the possible banning of the Iraq First political party, or is it part of a Sunni military coup? Or was it simply Al-Qaeda in Iraq getting jealous of the attention AQAP is getting and wanting to show that they are still viable and active?

    All these groups have motivations, but I’m curious which was responsible.
